Tyler Tomblin was raised in Laguna Beach, California. Laguna is
well know as an art center in Southern California. At a very young
age he was influenced by many artists and mediums. Throughout grade
school and high school he enjoyed ceramics and drawing. He received
awards for his work as an adolescent and became interested in art
as a career. He started selling his ceramics and pottery at the
annual Sawdust Festival in Laguna Beach. It became clear early that
he had the knack for art and people were excited by his work. Tyler
took art classes at Saddleback College and was rewarded a one man
show for his efforts. He was also very interested in computer aided
design and was deeply involved in selling his graphics to surf companies.
Tyler moved to Santa Barbara in 1991 and began studying at UCSB.
He worked as an artist all through college and had many student
art shows, he has two pieces of art in the permanent collection
of the UCSB Art Museum. After college he began his career as a professional
graphic designer. He lucked into a position that allowed him to
create works seen the world over. After six years as a commercial
artist he decided he needed something on the side so he took
up painting. Dabbling before, he jumped head first into the painting
world. Having his first show in 2002, he was an immediate success
selling twelve of twenty-two pieces shown the first night. Selling
over sixty paintings through the duration. The show is on permanent
collection and it can be seen at The Brewhouse in Santa Barbara.
In 2003 Tyler decided to open The Art Den. The vision being - to
create a creative place to incubate ideas, bring them to the public
and help other artists realize their dreams. The Art Den was a fine
art gallery, screen printer, graphic design house, producer of giclees
for artists, and art studio. Within it’s first twelve months
The Art Den has had five openings representing twentyone artists.
In May of 2004 Tyler decided to commit his full energy to The Art
Den. In 2006 he had to close the Art Den due to a series of events. He still operates the Art Den as a graphic design house and uses the name to promote occasional art opennings. He is cuurently an Art Director for the Associated Students at the University of California Santa Barbara.
